Health Improvement

A focus on supporting individuals, families and communities to take responsibility for maintaining good health and reducing unhealthy lifestyles is at the core of developing resilient, healthy communities. Developing a focus on health improvement priorities is essential to help people adopt and sustain healthy lifestyles and to reduce suffering from many long term conditions.

The consequences of smoking, obesity/physical inactivity, alcohol and illegal substance misuse have serious implications for individuals, families and communities across our city.  Easy access to health improvement and prevention programmes will underpin our efforts to improve quality of life for local people, reducing associated ill health and maximising positive health outcomes across the city. Programme areas include:

  • Tobacco Control

  • Obesity/Overweight

  • Physical Activity

  • Sexual Health

  • Alcohol and Substance misuse

  • NHS Health Checks

  • Positive mental health
